About the

ODIN WEEK FESTIVAL

A TEN-DAY INTENSIVE INTRODUCTION
TO ODIN TEATRET'S TRAINING AND WORKING METHODS AS WELL AS BARTERS, LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES,
ORGANISATION AND PERFORMANCES

The ODIN WEEK FESTIVAL is an international seminar-festival, held once a year at Odin Teatret in Holstebro for people wishing to acquire a better knowledge of its activities. The programme includes training, attending rehearsals, all Odin Teatret's performances and work demonstrations currently on repertoire, films, meetings with Eugenio Barba, lectures and discussions. The programme is conducted in English.

The first Odin Week was held in 1989 as a workshop accompanied by films and performances so that the participants could experience the process of physical and vocal training together with the resulting performances directed by Eugenio Barba.

The ODIN WEEK FESTIVAL now lasts ten days and offers the opportunity of a full immersion in Odin Teatret's diverse fields of action. The actors and Eugenio Barba lead the practical sessions of "the Odin Tradition" which is composed of different individualities, personal techniques and shared values which exist in the everyday practice of our craft. Each actor gives the participants an insight into their particular creative approach while the meetings with Eugenio Barba are a time for questions concerning directing, group dynamics and survival strategy, theatre anthropology and other issues.

Every day, from 8 a.m.until 10 p.m, activities include - apart from those mentioned above - meetings with Odin Teatret's musicians, technicians and administrative staff, the preparation of a barter with local people and a visit to the town which has been Odin Teatret's home for 48 years. The ODIN WEEK FESTIVAL gives a chance to get to know how a theatre group functions, from the complex weaving of a performance to the numerous details of planning and organising tours, maintaining an effective connection to the community and making available a living archive of the vast amount of material about Odin Teatret's history as a theatre laboratory.

The ODIN WEEK FESTIVAL, for a maximum of 50 participants, is addressed to theatre and dance practitioners, scholars and anthropologists, cultural activists and politicians - all those interested in Odin Teatret's multiple activities. Participants can choose between being active or observers. The participation fee includes the cost of food and lodging.
