The Midsummer Dream School provides an exclusive and intensive study programme with workshops, lectures, performances in a cross-over environment of academia and theatre.

The course focuses on how to learn about dramaturgy of theatre at the university and in a theatre laboratory.

The first part of The Midsummer Dream School will take place in the theatre spaces at Aarhus University, the second part in the venues of Odin Teatret in Holstebro.

The Midsummer Dream School will focus on applied dramaturgy and creative processes in performing situations, especially on the relationships between performers and spectators in the theatrical space.

In Aarhus the practical/theoretical work will concentrate on scenes from Shakespeare's Hamlet, seen from various dramaturgical points of view.

At Odin Teatret the activities will focus on the actor's dramaturgy and montage, both physical and vocal, led by the actors Roberta Carreri, Jan Ferslev and Kai Bredholt, as well as on dialogues concerning dramaturgical strategies with Eugenio Barba, founder of Odin Teatret (1964).

The programme is led by associate professors Erik Exe Christoffersen and Annelis Kuhlmann, and by guest director, Kirsten Dehlholm, founder of the performance company, Hotel Pro Forma (1985) from Copenhagen.

The daily schedule includes practical workshops, performances, exercises, lectures, films and discussions, and discussions and analysis of performance, results and experiences from the creative processes in groups.
