heck - i was trying to improve things & once again have only made them worse :( i tried to add the "practice" options into the member search view, but somehow succeeded in making it only search members who were currently online. so i deleted the "practice" options, & i also deleted the "online" option because that seemed to be the only way to make it work again. it really did work again - for about 5 minutes! then mysteriously stopped working again ... ??????
it is actually a real pain, already i have needed to search the members several times ... but i'm afraid to touch it now in case i make things even worse. i really don't know enough about views & at the moment i don't have the time to spend hours learning about it ... :(

i think i have fixed the member search - by setting the email dropdown to "contains" rather than "is equal to" as default. not sure why this should have made a difference but it seems to have ...
