GROUP.BR’s 8th anniversary

NY’s only Brazilian Theatre Company just completed 8 years of professional activity

Run by two Brazilian immigrant women, Debora Balardini and Andressa Furletti, GROUP.BR was founded in 2011.Over 8 years of history, the company served over 4.000 people and produced over 40 events among plays, readings, community events, and workshops. And there is much more to come!

They research, support and produce Brazilian dramaturgy performing plays in Portuguese with English subtitles, or spoken in both languages, offering the audience the opportunity to connect with the lyrical sound of the Brazilian Portuguese language and feel a more accurate portrait of our culture. It serve enthusiasts of contemporary, physical and avant-garde theater, and multi-disciplinary arts.

The company has performed works from dramaturge Nelson Rodrigues, author/poet Vinicius de Moraes, and acclaimed author Clarice Lispector.  Among cast and crew, they promote inclusive and diverse hiring. They are proud to celebrate their heritage and connect with their cultural roots in a way that is uplifting and unifying.

The engagement of the public is always very rewarding and the community does have Group .BR as a core of preservation and resignification of Brazilian culture in integration with other cultures. A true platform for the production, research, promotion and support of Brazilian performing arts in New York City and around the world. About 60% of the public are Brazilian or Brazilian descendent, including residents and tourists. The other 40% is composed of other non Brazilian or non Porguguese speakers. The target population comes from the 5 boroughs of NYC and New Jersey, having Brooklyn and Manhattan inhabitants between 20 and 60 years old, with a slight majority of female audience.

Since 2017, the company has become a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Debora and Andressa are very grateful for the

support of their growing community and very happy to continue their mission of presenting Brazilian culture through the performing arts in New York.
