The Water[war]s project has spread into the realm of cyberspace, complementing the proximal events and enhancing the global nature of the project. We are exploring the cyber stage, stretching the boundaries of time and place that usually define a theatrical performance. We use avatars to represent our bodies, and the rest is poetry, visual images, technical magic and storytelling.
The cyberformance element consisted of four short scenes based on the material used in the performance. The scenes were performed by Adriene Jenik (Soldier) and Lisa Brenneis (Mermaid) at Desktop Theater's Genetically Enhanced Palace.

A live audience watched the cyberformance, demonstrated by Helen Varley Jamieson and projected onto a screen (as opposed to being experienced individually on a monitor screen). Afterwards, a lively discussion was held, questioning what can be called "theatre" and where is the body in this form of performance.
Left is a screengrab from a scene about the transfer of water from the Owens Valley to irrigate Los Angeles. The background photograph is by Agata Skowronek.
