Magdalena Sin Fronteras II
Magdalena Without Frontiers II
Second Notice

From January 8th through 18th 2008, in Santa Clara, Cuba
Director: Roxana Pineda
Organized by the Estudio Teatral de Santa Clara.
Sponsored by: Dirección Provincial de Cultura en Villa Clara, Consejo Provincial de Artes Escénicas de Villa Clara y Consejo Nacional de las Artes Escénicas de Cuba.

The Cuban reality continues to get increasing attention around the world. The difficult economic and political conditions are forcing the country into difficult strategies for survival. In the middle of all these difficulties, the artistic culture continues to proclaim itself as the shield of the nation, and the artists defend with their work a critical and committed view, consistent with the spaces for dignity that they knew how to protect during so many years. There is a renewed interest all over the world to know and to participate in the events created in the cultural centers of our country.

Magdalena Sin Fronteras I, was developed in our province in the year 2005. It was a cultural success that involved theater people and intellectuals from all over the isle. Considered the biggest educational event in the history of Cuban theater, Magdalena Without Frontiers was an event of high quality because of the shows that were presented; and moving because of the confrontation of many of the visitors with a reality alive and challenging.

For many of the teachers it was a special experience that put in action the solidarity and commitment of many of the spaces of cultural resistance where human dignity is, after all the most important thing.

That’s why it is a commitment to reenact Magdalena without Frontiers in spite of all the economic difficulties that we are going through. Because we want to maintain and defend those spaces of real encounter; because we want, from the reality of a country with huge difficulties, to make possible new encounters, to hear other voices, to discover how to invent strategies of solidarity and to give the main role to the women creators of theater from a reality that makes us to discover every day the energy needed to persist in the path of creativity and the commitment with what we do.
We can’t offer luxurious material conditions, but we commit ourselves to create good conditions and a precise organization where the work and the possibility of meeting and dialogue will be the most important part of it. Everything confronted with the reality in which we work.

Theme: Actresses- Directors

This time the theme will allow us to know the motivation that move many actresses to start doing work as directors, and to share the paths that they design to arrive to the construction of shows.

The strategies of protection of the work with the groups, or paths in the construction of politics of survival as leaders of creative processes and theater groups. The education as an alternative of protection and the hands on of the impulse to direct.
