THE LOST BOOK OF LAKEWOOD HOUSE

Next weekend, June 19 and 20, we will be presenting another installment of our Lakewood House series. This time the play, The Lost Book of Lakewood House is set in 1929, 1969, and 2009, and the Lakewood House Hotel and its clientele go through some radical changes. The research into our history has been fascinating, and we sincerely hope you will be able to attend one of the shows, part of the county-wide bicentennial celebration. Please call us at 845-557-0694 or e-mail nacl@nacl.org to reserve.

THE LOST BOOK OF LAKEWOOD HOUSE
Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20 at 8 PM

Tickets are $15/10 Call 845-557-0694 to reserve.

The Lost Book of Lakewood House traces the history of Sullivan County through the comings and goings at NACL's home base, a former resort hotel called "Lakewood House." The play is a sequel to the company's hit show, The Mystery of Lakewood House, which took place all over the grounds of the NACL theatre center-in the kitchen, the living room, the bathrooms, the back sheds, the front porch, and of course, the theatre itself, which is a former Franciscan Catholic church. In this new installment the quirky psychics return, in search of a lost book. As they battle it out for this missing piece of Sullivan County history, they encounter spirits from the resort's mysterious past, and uncover some startling and bizarre stories.

The show is a celebration of the glory days of Sullivan County-from the early days of the first automobiles and bungalow colonies, to the heyday of the Borscht Belt resort phenomenon, to the moon landing and that famous and infamous rock concert that changed everything, Woodstock. NACL's crack group of actors are currently researching the local history, and will gather from across the country to create this exciting piece of site-specific theatre, sponsored by the Sullivan County Bicentennial Committee.

The Characters
mystery psychic
Brett Keyser and Kathy Randals: Psychics
Two highly unusual psychics do battle to find the lost book of Lakewood House.

Tannis Kowalchuk: Hotel Owner/Proprietor in both 1929 and 1969: A truly entrepreneurial spirit, she fled eastern Europe and communism because she and her husband wanted more. After their son was born, her husband died under mysterious circumstances. She has a bootleg vodka distillery in the basement and holds weekly card games.

Laura Moran: Hotel-owner Neighbor in 1929 and Hippie Neighbor in 1969:
An ideologue any way you cut it-she has very strong feelings about what is right and does not understand wishy-washy people. Very excited about Woodstock. She grew up locally. In 1929 she makes NO HEBREWS signs to pass out to neighboring hotels. In 1969, she passes out peace signs and argues with Vietnam veterans.

Sarah Dey Hirshan: Hotel guest in 1929 and convalescing Vietnam vet in 1969:
A dreamer, she wants to experience everything. Admires Amelia Earhart and is fascinated with all forms of transportation. She enlisted in the army so she could fly helicopters but she served as a secretary instead. Got injured by a rocket landing outside her office in Saigon.

Glenn Hall: Hotel guest academic in 1929 and environmentalist in 1969.
Sees the world through his books. In 1929 he is working on his dissertation about the logging and tanning industries of Sullivan County. In 1969, he is studying the use of pesticides in farming. He keeps a bottle of hemlock in his room in 1929. He is allergic to the outdoors and hides from sportsmen.

John Bevan: Local tractor salesman in 1929 and real estate broker in 1969.
A manly man, he admires Henry Ford and other rich people who he sees as living the good life. He is always carrying a fishing rod, a rifle, or an oar. In 1929, he starts the rumor about Henry Ford coming through town, in 1969, he wants to develop a huge golf resort. He is a little worried about the upcoming concert event.
