THE WOMEN'S THEATRE PROJECT
presents
GIRL PLAY
The First Annual Lesbian Play Reading Festival
The Women's Theatre Project will be presenting GIRL PLAY, the First Annual Lesbian Play Reading Festival on Saturday, June 27th at 8 PM and Sunday, June 28th at 2 PM in association with the GLCC at their new building, 2040 N. Dixie Hwy, in Wilton Manors, FL. Scripts were submitted for consideration from all over the USA, Canada and Australia. The two performances are completely different programs featuring readings of the sixteen selected short scripts with a focus on lesbian themes.
The Women's Theatre Project produces plays written by female playwrights. The festival was created to give lesbian playwrights a voice. After the New Times named the TWTP "The best place to meet intelligent lesbians" in their 2008 Best Of issue, the festival seemed a perfect match for their mission.
The plays will be directed by Genie Croft, Steven Chambers, Karla DiBenedetto, Gail Garrisan, and Marjorie O'Neill-Butler. A team of professional actors from across South Florida will be participating on stage.
Tickets are a $10 donation and will be sold at the door. Luscious Lesbian Martinis, created especially for this event, will be sold at these performances. Seating is limited to 75 persons per performance. For more information, or to reserve seats, call TWTP's Box Office at 954-462-2334.
The Women's Theatre Project, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, was founded in 2002 and is the only professional theatre company in the country founded by women and exclusively presenting theatrical works written by women with all female characters. |
